Do you have any of these goals?
- Going to School?
- Going to Work?
- Exploring Social Activities?
- Becoming more independent in your daily activities?
Let us help you find solutions:
People whose lives are disrupted by disabling forms of mental illness often suffer setbacks to their mobility and lack access to important community resources. Effects of illness, medications, or the challenges of reliance on public entitlement programs can serve as barriers to attaining a vocationally and socially satisfying life. The Community Access Project -- a joint project of Clubhouse of Suffolk and Hands Across Long Island -- helps people to find solutions to these barriers.
The Community Access Project can assist you to:
- Efficiently use public transit
- Access public para-transit services
- Connect with carpools and ridesharing
- Obtain your drivers license
- Plan trips and outings
- Learn Long Island roadways
- Learn to read maps
- Budget for transportation expenses
- Purchase and insure a vehicle
- Learn basic auto maintenance
How to apply for services:
- Call for information and an application to help us identify your transportation needs
- Mail or fax it back to us
- We will connect you with a peer counselor who will work with you to help solve your transportation needs.
The mission of the Community Access Project is to increase the independence
and access of all people recovering from disabling forms of mental illness to
the rich array of resources of their community.
